If you are thinking of signing up to a 5k but want something
a bit more laid back and fun then get signed up to the latest fad in running now;
a colour run! On Sunday I took part in the Essex Colour 5k in Colchester. The idea
is simple; turn up in a white t-shirt and for every kilometre you complete ‘colour
bandits’ will throw a different colour paint powder at you. By the finish line you will be a multi-coloured works of art!

The great thing about the colour run is that it isn’t about
time or competiveness; it’s about the atmosphere so if you are looking for your
first 5k but could do without the pressure of a timed event then this is ideal!
I signed up to the event with a group of friends from home; all of mixed
abilities in terms of running (5k times vary from 19 minutes to 35) but
everyone enjoyed the run equally.

Come on Alex!! |
When you cross the finish line you are rewarded with your
own pot of colour paint…payback time! Or that bit of additional incentive you
need to reach the finish line before your friends?!

Colour runs are becoming increasingly popular and London
will be holding its own version sponsored by Dulux on the 14th July
2013. Manchester will also be hosting this event on the 21st July. The
Essex Colour 5k sold out weeks before the event so make sure you enter now to
avoid disappointment. (www.thecolorrun.co.uk)
I have already signed up to the London
leg with my flat mates; cant wait!
